Since my practice involves many high conflict family law cases, sometimes it feels like steering a ship through our latest visit from nature Hurricane Irene. The question always comes down to who’s the captain, and who’s doing the navigating. Ultimately, my job is to make sure my clients are the captain who utilize my expertise as their GPS system guiding them through the storm. Its easy when there is smooth sailing and little if no navigation is needed. When the waters get choppy is when my legal navigation skills are tested. Ultimately, though Mother Nature will be the ultimate decision make on how the trip ends up. This is very similar to divorce cases which are litigated in the court system. Now matter how each of the attorneys skillfully guide their clients through the storm of divorce, the Mother Nature of the court system and ultimately the Judge will decide the case. There must be a better way.
